Evaluation of a Human Sexuality and Family Planning Training Program for Human Service Professionals

Abstract

This article reports the evaluative findings from afamilyplanningandsexuality training program for human service professionals. This study assessed the effects of the training program on human service professionals knowledge of human sexuality andfamily planning, skill in working with clients around sexual health issues and ability to apply the above in practice settings. The training program was designed based on a trainee needs assessment. The data indicate significant changesfrom thepre-test topost-test assessment of knowledge and skills. Transferability of gains to work settings was also in evidence. In addition, positivefeedback was received on workshop content and methodology. The results of this study suggest the applicability of this training modelfor extending human sexuality and family planning knowledge and skill development in human service professionals working with Title XX clients in a variety of service agencies.
