Abstract

The Javits 7+ Gifted and Talented Program awarded to Community. School District 18 of Brooklyn, New York, was designed to provide an opportunity for socioeconomically disadvantaged children to receive intensive school-based activities which would prepare them for programs for the gifted. The philosophical approach of this grant was derived from Gardner's concept of multiple intelligences. The program was designed to involve teachers, parents, district staff, and students in program design and implementation. This article outlines the components of the grant, its operation, and its evaluation as viewed by the author.
