Goffman's Frame Analysis (1974) is used to analyze the organization of experience in various settings at the annual meetings of learned societies "Conventioneering" and "game" frames are presented, analyzed, and compared in several types of focused interaction situations Rapid frame change and differential awareness account partially for conventioner confusion and suspicion The two frames evoke very different images of the self among conventioners
