Abstract
This article is based on a survey of blind and partially sighted students known to the RNIB who were in further and higher education between 1969 and 1985 (1). It shows how the number of these students has been growing, together with the variety of establishments attended and courses pursued. Issues related to admission, student support services and employment are dealt with. Although the sample does not include all visually handacapped students in further education during this period, it is probably representative enough to indicate major trends and allow tentative conclusions to be drawn.
