Malnutrition As A Possible Contributing Factor to Learning Disabilities

Abstract

Today's consumer is becoming a “label-reader.” Housewives and mothers cannot take for granted that a food that is tasty and easy to prepare is also nutritious. They are clamoring for better information on foods provided for their growing families. Research in nutrition and the effects of particular protein and vitamin deficiencies on brain development and function demonstrate a real cause for concern. Of particular importance is adequate nutritional balance during the prenatal months and the first four years of life. More research, information and practical suggestions are needed for parents and for people who work with children. Nutritional counseling is needed for feeding all children, and especially the special child.
