Abstract
Studies in human neuropsychology often fall prey to criterion problems because of a dependence on construct validity. The present paper argues that such criteria are inappropriate and that only empirical criteria have some claim to validity in this area of research. The question of appropriate experimental designs are discussed and a recommendation made that non-parametric statistics be employed in such designs.
