Abstract
The role of thefamily coordinator in longitudinal research is described in this article. A masters prepared specialist in nursing of children operationalized the role using family systems and developmental theories. Strategies are offered for dealing with issues in longitudinal family research, such as reluctance to participate, family changes/crises, and situational stressors. The skills required by a nurse specialist in the family coordinator role are examined.
