Abstract
This paper examines the differential accuracy of the Fisher and Hotelling transformations of the correlation coefficient. Contrary to expectation, the Hotelling transformation provided a minimal gain in power and was associated with a larger Type I error rate when compared to Fisher's formula with small sample sizes. The two transformations produced essentially identical results for larger sample sizes.
