Abstract
An abbreviated, 13-item version of the Behavioral Attributes of Psychosocial Competence Scale (BAPC) was derived. Two studies were designed to examine internal consistency, test-retest reliability, criterion and concurrent validity, and ethnic comparability. Participants in Study 1 were 346 college students of diverse ethnic backgrounds: Asian American, African American, and non-Latino white. Study 1 data indicated good internal consistency (alpha = .76), comparability across ethnic groups, high correlation with the original BAPC measure, and criterion validity evidence parallel to that of the BAPC. Study 2 replicated an internal consistency of .76 with a sample of 95 college students. Test-retest reliability over a 6-week period was .86. Concurrent validity was supported by evidence that the BAPC-Condensed Form and the COPE Inventory have variance in common.
