Abstract
Both the number and the proportion of women in the paid labor force have increased substantially over the past twenty-five years. There has also been much activity on the part of both government and women's organizations to upgrade the status of women. Yet there appears to be little change in the number of women in upper level management positions in municipal, state or federal government. This paper identifies two very interesting trends that have appeared which may have an impact on this situation. The first is the increasing favorableness with which college women look upon careers in the public sector. The second is the increase in the proportion of public administration college degrees awarded to women. The final part of the paper discusses the implications of these trends for public administration curricula and the status of women in public organizations.
