Abstract
Injection molding has been used to produce a composite of short, randomly dispersed, high-modulus HDPE fibers in an LDPE matrix. With a fiber loading of 10 wt% the wear coefficient of the composite rubbing against smooth 316L steel on a tri-pin-on-disc machine is lower by nearly an order of magnitude than that of LDPE. There is a reduction in the tensile creep rate of the composite compared with LDPE and modest improvements in strength and modulus.
