Abstract
Thermal properties of short-fiber reinforced composites depend on many, different factors, such as thermal properties and volume fractions of constituents, fiber aspect (i.e., fiber length to diameter) ratio, and fiber orientation. A general formula for predicting the effective thermal conductivity, k ef, of these types of composites has been derived. The formula accounts for fiber anisotropy, fiber length, and orientation statistical distribution. Influence of the above mentioned factors on k ef has been studied in detail. Theoretical results have been compared to the pertinent experimental data.
