Abstract
In this paper, a novel analytical and numerical study of low-velocity impact on a cantilever sandwich beams were carried out. Sandwich beams were made of stainless steel face-sheets and Aluminum foam core of fixed and variable density (layered). The governing equations are determined in the analytical section using the Galerkin procedure, and the velocity and acceleration equations of the sandwich beam are derived. ABAQUS software was also used to simulate this process. The results showed that there is good agreement between the numerical and analytical results and that density and arrangement of foam core layers have a significant effect on the deformation of the sandwich beam. In the following, the effect of some parameters such as mass, breadth and velocity of projectile and the strength of the foam core on the deflection of the top face-sheet were studied.
