Abstract
The objective ofthe paper is to develop avibration control design procedure that uses a single actuator to suppress vibrations in many structural modes simultaneously by using acceleration feedback control theory. In this paper, a new technique, based on the crossover point design of the compensator, has been developed to compute optimal design parameters to achieve modal vibration reduction without introducing any new natural frequencies in the closed loop system. The new technique has been validated by both experimental studies and simulation studies. The new design procedure has also been compared experimentally and analytically to a previous design of acceleration feedback controller by using critically damped compensators. Then, experimental and analytical investigations are directed to control more than one mode of a cantilevered beam with a single actuator. This is demonstrated by using piezoceramic wafer actuators and an accelerometer sensor on the beam structure.
