Abstract
Recently, several authors have discussed the value of self-help groups for women with anorexia nervosa and bulimia. It has been suggested that such groups can provide support, reducefeelings of isolation and uniqueness, create hope, and, in general, serve as a tool in the recovery process. With this in mind, a weekly self-help group for anorexics and bulimics was started and evaluated 6 months later. Based on their self-reports, the self-help group was found to benefit most of its members. Findings are discussed in relation to the "curative factors" of such groups and suggestions are offered for professionals interested in establishing self-help groups of this nature.
