Abstract

Empirical research on the education of delinquents is reviewed, covering delinquents' problems in school achievement, their psychological characteristics, and their physiological problems. Educational programs and techniques are discussed and most of those which have proven successful with delinquents have been highly structured. A survey of the literature indicates that delinquents have particular problems with verbal communication and reading. The easily observable trend towards an ever higher incidence of delinquency indicates that public school personnel must soon avail themselves of the latest and the best research findings in this important area.
