Abstract

A general class of randomly-oriented composite laminate is presented where the stiffness characteristics are isotropic under in-plane loading condition. A simple random statistical study indicated that a fairly isotropic laminate is reached if the number of lamina with arbitrary orientation is over 40. A corneal material is then reasonably assumed to be macroscopically isotropic with the number of laminae over forty.
