Abstract
Deterioration with time of two solid phases firmly bonded together has been discussed. The aim is to find a relation between the times of rupture of the composite material and that of its constituents. The mixture is assumed to be homogeneous on a microscopic scale, but not necessarily isotropic. However, the two phases themselves are assumed to be isotropic and homogeneous. But their elastic moduli differ so that the stress and the strain fields throughout the mixture are microscopically non-homogeneous.
