Abstract
In this paper, the influence of rotating backward extrusion (RBE) on the microstructure, texture, and mechanical properties of the Mg–8.0Gd–3.0Y–0.5Zr (GW83) (wt%) alloy was investigated. The results show that RBE treatment can refine grains. Analysis of the microstructure at different regions along the height direction shows that the average grain size decreases from Region A to Region C. Especially note that the maximum texture strength of the specimen increases from 6.248 in Region A to 7.477 in Region B, which is an obvious effect of texture strengthen. Finally, after RBE treatment, the ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation of the Region C of the alloy can reach ∼362 MPa, ∼314 MPa, and 13.8%, respectively.
