Abstract
Many counselors aspire to licensure, but not all reflect on or evaluate the purpose and process of licensure. This article offers the marriage and family therapist licensure requirements state by state for those who aspire to licensure. It also offers a brief literature review and observations about the purpose of and problems associated with licensure. In particular, it points out potential problems with current marriage and family counseling licensure laws. Finally, it makes recommendations about how marriage and family counselors might address these problems.
