Abstract
Metaphoric expressions offer insight into the meanings created within given cultures. The culture of adult education is explored in this study through an analysis of metaphors elicited from weekend students. Focus group interviews produced metaphoric themes of "blessing and penance," "running and juggling," and "addiction for learning." In addition, the metaphor of "family" was cited frequently as an ideal for adult education programs. A discussion of the metaphors and suggestions for applications are provided.
