Abstract
Noise-induced hearing loss is the permanent hearing impairment that results from prolonged exposure to high levels of noise. Hearing loss caused by recreational and occupational noise exposure is the second-most-common cause of sensorineural hearing loss after presbycusis. Noise exposure is a potentially avoidable cause of deafness and the World Health Organisation recommends integrating elements of prevention, diagnosis, education, hearing promotion and conservation into primary care.
