Abstract

This practice column features the works of three graduate nursing students who developed community practice models during their studies at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The nurses worked in communities with Native Americans, older persons in long-term care, and persons struggling with limited resources. Each of the nurses developed a practice model consistent with the human becoming nursing theory, and each shows here how nursing practice is different from traditional nursing care when it is guided by a knowledge base consistent with the human science paradigm. The work described in the column contributes to understanding nursing as a discipline with a practice that makes meaningful contributions to human health and quality of life.
