Abstract

This study proposes a comprehensive methodology to extract and analyze structural information from urban facades. The approach integrates visual analysis, reasoning techniques, and a parametric measurement tool to gain insights into facade complexity and underlying design logic. Through the parameterization of structural data and algorithm development, the framework identifies and examines key facade features. A case study in Tehran applies this method by conducting visual analysis to understand facade elements and retrieving parametric data through computational reasoning. Algorithms adaptively measure urban fabric criteria, demonstrating practical applicability in context. The results validate the effectiveness of this facade analysis technique, while the parametric tool enables the exploration of optimal design configurations. In conclusion, this integrated process of qualitative visual assessment and quantitative parametric modeling provides a novel solution to decipher urban facade complexity. The algorithms transform conceptual parameters into actionable data, guiding impactful design decisions. Quantifying facade features facilitates organized urban development and context-appropriate architecture. This research highlights the value of computable urban analysis, setting a foundation for future computational methods in urban design.
