Abstract
The recommendations on higher education for the police are developed by discussing the following questions. Why educate for policing? What should be studied? Who should be educated? Who should be the educators? How should police agencies treat education? What changes should be made and how? Higher education for the police and other criminal justice professionals is shown to be simultaneously a desirable goal and a worrisome dilemma. The benefits and assests of a representative criminal justice program are developed along with its limitations and liabilities, and its potential for academic abuse.
