Abstract
Throughout the years, general education (GE) has failed to see the value in visual arts programs in its curriculum across colleges in universities in the US. Even while creative careers continue to expand, and studies have shown the significance of the visual arts, art courses are still questioned as to their value and importance within the GE program. Visual art courses offer many important skills for students, and play a valuable role on self-concept and identity understanding. Discussed studies have shown the important role that visual art has played on various understandings of student identity. It is imperative for educators across all fields to recognize the value that visual art adds to the GE curriculum across colleges and universities in the US in order to best serve our students.
