IL CANCRO DELLO STOMACO CONSIDERAZIONI STATISTICHE E RISULTATI LONTANI

Abstract

A series of 1 035 cases of gastric cancer observed in the Hospital of Busto Arsizio from 1921 to 1953 is presented. 727 patients (70,2 per cent) were operated: 438 of them (42,2 per cent) were submitted to resection, 110 to gastro-enterostomy or gastrotomy, 179 to exploratory laparotomy. The post-operative mortality is of the 18,2 per cent for the totality of operations; for the resections only (radical or sub-radical) a 21,6 per cent mortality is observed. Percentages of 5 and 10 years survival were 18,3 and 13,8 respectively (for patients submitted to radical or palliative resection). For all the treated and untreated patients hospitalized for gastric cancer, the 5 years survival was of the 7,7 per cent.
