Abstract

This paper describes approaches that may be used in consulting with the bereaved mother about engorgement and involution. The physical and emotional facets of this experience are intricately interwoven and lactation consultants should be aware that mothers may need a number of health care professionals to meet their needs. Suggestions for milk suppression, communication enhancement, and emotional support are offered.
