Abstract
Young grass is the ideal food for the grazing animal. It is rich in all essential nutrients and is cheaper to produce than most other feeds. The chief aims of the livestock farmer must be to get plenty of young grass for grazing in early spring and late autumn, when it is most needed, and to conserve any surplus, particularly as silage, for winter feeding. This will make his farm more self-supporting and lower the cost of livestock products.
