The development of the no-tillage concept in the United States

Abstract

Attempts to develop a no-tillage crop husbandry system in the U.S.A. have to a large extent been concentrated on corn and permanent pastures. Progress has been dependent on the demonstration of the benefits of the system and on the availability of herbicides with the requisite properties. Although the development of the concept of no tillage is still largely in the hands of the experimental agronomists, the significance of the technique has already permeated into commercial practice.
