Abstract
The natural rangelands (veld) of Africa yield grasses that are notorious for their poor phosphorus and crude protein contents. Unless supplementary feed is given during the dry months, animals otherwise entirely dependent for their subsistence on veld grazing will suffer in growth, production and reproductive ability. The problem of range feeding that exists in Africa is vastly different from that found in Europe, where the average grazing or roughage feed is of good quality.
