Abstract
Ticks are unbiquitous blood sucking ectoparasites distantly related to spiders, and through the direct damage they inflict and the diseases they transmit constitute one of the major constraints on livestock production worldwide, but most particularly in subtropical and tropical areas. Losses due to ticks in the cattle industry have been estimated as at least $7 billion annually.
