• All health care professionals must be able to justify their actions • Litigation cases are on the increase • Practice should be based on available evidence • Expert witnesses help the court understand the case and will compare a professional's practice against that reasonably expected of members of the professional's own professional group • Consideration of professional practices now may prevent or minimise the stress of future investigation and justification
