Abstract
The present paper reviews the available research on the effects of drug interventions with young hyperactive children. Following a brief discussion of hyperactivity in young children, several studies pertinent to the difficulties involved in the early identification of hyperactive behaviors and the drugs typically used in the management of such behaviors are summarized. It is concluded that the limited number of investigations does not justify the widespread utilization of stimulant drug treatment with young hyperactive children. Implications for future research and clinical practice are also discussed.
