Design and application of a platform for CAE-based optimization using a grid-based environment

Abstract

This article introduces a platform for computer-aided engineering-based optimization using a Grid-based environment. Established upon China National Grid (CNGrid) environment, the platform is designed to maximize the efficiency of optimization process while taking advantage of Grid computing. This research provides the grid users with easier access to simulation-based optimization problem, so that they will not be distracted by lower level details and can concentrate on the problem itself. The architecture and the techniques used are thoroughly explained in this article. Practicality of the platform is further validated through application on an optimization project in automotive industry for lightweight design of a body in white.
