Abstract
This paper describes a computer controlled system for monitoring atmospheric vinyl chloride monomer at one of the BP Chemical complexes. The system has operated virtually trouble free since its inception and the design philosophy which contributed to this performance is discussed. Many of the points raised have implications for the successful application of microprocessors, and the article concludes with a suggested approach to widening the range of applications of small computers.
