Abstract
Data from 90 medical residents who had completed rotations in the primary care clinic of a VA hospital were analyzed to determine the causes of physician productivity. Productivity data were compiled from the daily logsheets maintained in the clinic. Three sets of factors were examined: the residents' experience and training, future-practice plans, and attitudes toward patients. Some support for the experience and practice variables was found, but none of the attitude variables was significant.
