1. Approximately 5 per cent of the immigrant children in the Little et al. study were said to have 'little or no English'. Cf. the report by Dr. R. P. Wofinden ('Immigrant Children in Bristol', Nursing Times, 23 February 1968 ) that in 57 immigrant children specially studied attending primary schools where there were 35 per cent or more immigrant children, 5.26 per cent had 'language difficulties severe enough to interfere with their education'.
