Abstract
A comparison of the serum levels of Rifamide was made in 10 patients with grossly impaired renal function and in 18 healthy volunteers. After the intramuscular injection of 150 mg. Rifamide, blood samples were removed at half-hourly intervals for 3 hours and then at hourly intervals for up to 8 hours. The serum was assayed by a tube dilution method and by an agar diffusion method using blotting paper discs. There was no apparent difference in the concentrations of Rifamide in the two groups during the period studied. It is suggested that Rifamide could be a useful antibiotic for patients with chronic renal failure who have infection with Staphylococcus aureus.
