Abstract
This article pursues some implications of viewing personal relationships as a skilled accomplishment. It suggests that the social skills through which people conduct their relationship can be an integrative focus for research, sketches an approach to social skills grounded in a functional analysis of personal relationships, and describes how this type of analysis can be coupled with a `doubly developmental' model of relationship change.
