Using the figure-of-8 tape technique to place neonates and infants in the lithotomy position

Abstract

Cystourethroscopy in children can be conducted in a significant variety of patient sizes, ranging from newborns to adolescents. In order to have adequate visualization of both the urethra and the bladder, suitable positioning needs to be achieved. We describe a method for positioning the legs of infants for cystoscopy using skin-friendly tape. The benefit of this technique is that it is adaptable and cheap without the requirement for wedges, stirrups or boots. Level of evidence: Level IV.
