Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine criminal activity in rural America, particularly drugrelated activity, by analyzing trends in offending for two rural regions in the Midwest. This study has three main objectives. First, the authors intend to discover how many defendants in these rural areas are drug-related offenders. Second, they propose to discover differential offending, with an emphasis on drug offending, based on location of each area (one more than 300 miles from any major metropolitan city and one within 50 miles of Kansas City, Missouri). Third, the article will find the overall trends of offending in each of the rural regions.
