Empirical Support For Intervention Strategies In Community Corrections

Abstract

Half of the clients who terminate from community corrections in Colorado are sent (or returned) to prison, primarily for technical/ house violations and escape. These offenders constitute a growing proportion of the prison population. This study examined offenders who terminated from community corrections in 1989 to determine what characteristics, special needs and program services may be related to outcome (failure and success). Discriminant analyses found age, criminal history, employment, and treatment to be predictive of outcome. Although the study was exploratory, the findings have important implications for program development in community corrections.
