Abstract
Social changes that have occurred in the Czech Republic since joining the EU and as a result of the subsequent reforms in the legislation have highlighted the urgent need to boost the effectiveness of all hospital departments. This has been reflected among other burning issues in the problem of how to secure basic hygiene in the General University Hospital (GUH) within economic and technological plans. Presently, this hospital provides an extensive out-patient service and the in-patient care has access to 1850 beds. The funds of GUH for technical services are limited, which calls for optimisation of the Economy and Technology Services (ETS). In this report we try to analyse and determine the trends affecting some indices of this sector. The current financial situation in this field is considerably influenced by the condition of the operational services of the hospital that are today rather obsolete and technically worn-out in some respects.
