Behavioral Science and the Negligent Child

Abstract

Several standards of negligence liability exist for children. The most common is that a child must behave in a reasonable manner that is consistent with that of a hypothetical child of like age, intelligence, and experience. Research in causal understanding, impulsivity, rough-and-tumble play behavior, and fire setting is related to negligence and provides a basis for understanding and applying this standard.
