Abstract

This article describes the application of a low-cost adjustable tibial brace made from a thermoplastic mesh sheet (Hexcelite), combined with a thermoplastic heel cup (Aquaplast). Since May 1985, over 100 such braces have been used satisfactorily at the Royal Preston Hospital. These have produced acceptable results, giving a well-ventilated brace of adequate rigidity with no skin/sweat rashes occurring.
