Abstract
The nature of qualitative research is examined through a review of the literature. The resonances between qualitative research and the practice and philosophy of occupational therapy are suggested. Particular attention is paid to the parallels in the areas of client-centred practice, holism, adult learning, gender issues, use of language and reflection. It is suggested that qualitative research is an appropriate methodology for research undertaken by occupational therapists and one for which they are well equipped by the nature of their core skills and philosophy.
