Abstract
A preliminary investigation into the effect of β-cyclodextrin (CD) on the dispersion synthesis of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) particles is presented. CD appears to play an important role in the polymerisation, decreasing the particle size and increasing the conversion of the monomer. These effects were evident with an increase in the CD content, but they were not a simple function of CD content. Other factors, such as the unique structure of CD and the interaction between CD and the poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) used as stabiliser, appear to be important influences on this polymerisation.
