Abstract
The association of Full Scale IQ (determined on the New South African Group Test), age, education level and gender with performance on the Trail Making Test (TMT) in 260 middle-class, white English-speaking schoolchildren in the age range 10 to 15 years, was investigated. The sample equally represented girls and boys in Stds 3 to 7. Age-based comparisons with Spreen and Gaddes's Canadian sample, and Reitan's American sample, revealed this South African sample's performance to be significantly superior. IQ was shown to be significantly related to these children's performance on Parts A and B of the test, and there was a significant relationship between age/education level and test performance.
