Effects of Static Tensile Stress On Dynamic Mechanical Properties of Thin Films

Abstract

Dynamic mechanical test results are presented for two linear low density poly ethylene (LLDPE) films and a polycarbonate (PC) film which show the effects of var iations in the static tensile stress on the dynamic properties. The differences arise from variations in creep of the films which may cause changes in the molecular orien tation and therefore changes in the mechanical properties. The different nature of semicrystalline polymers such as LLDPE and amorphous polymers such as PC is emphasized by their different responses to constant force and proportional-to-force tension control.
